When I went to Columbia for my MFA, I was very intimidated by making and showing because everyone called me trite. I started this little series of “drawings” or collages, that were all 11 x 9 1/2 inches on abaca paper from Dieu Donné. I called them my “Journal Series”. The fact that I named them this, enabled me to be free and prevented anyone from judging them. They often begin with me coveting a scrap, or having a wonder about “what-would-happen-if….” They often don’t go any further than that. Sometimes, I have something to say, and need to quickly get it out of my system. The reason that this isn’t under the category of “DOODLE” is because these are not only aesthetic musings, they are telling my specific thoughts on art and life.
