Cut out drawing I did for a printmaking project senior year at NMH, with thread on abaca paper, 11 x 8 1/2 inches
This is the incarnation of the first print that I made in high school. It was a mock up of what I was going to make on a lino plate. Julie Carr and some other friends of mine used to go into the fields and set the pods free. The milkweed seeds would float gently away and beyond, liberated from their pod enclosures. We, too, felt a freedom that was revelatory. I saved this for so long, because I liked the image, because of that first freedom that I felt and most importantly because here, my art had begun to reflect my reality.
