These Were on My Wrist (together), aged 16-19, 1986-2024,

string, thread, and dirt ink, on abaca paper, 11 x 8 inches.

When I was 15, I learned to make friendship bracelets.  I became a real professional and made them for myself and my friends and even made an enormous camera strap that I included in my application to Sarah Lawrence.   I wore so many, they were almost up to my elbows.  Some of these are from Peter Davis, my obsession at the time. Some are from other friends, but most are made by me.  When I went to do service in a village in Mexico, I was told to take them off beforehand.  I felt sad because I found them soothing to wear.  I was very attached to them all.  Obviously, I still am if I didn’t get rid of them.  That is why they are a part of the journal series now.
