1991, monoprint: color etching surface rolled, 18 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches.
Bad reproduction. More subtle colouring in real life.
I made a series of etching plates relating to writing. I enlarged my own writing, so it became just a shape, and scribbled my own intimate thoughts down in an indicernible way. I wiped the plates down with different colours and surface rolled them with other colours. I would lay the plates next to each other or on top of each other to see what the effect was. I had never been so excited by the possibilities of materials before. After 3 years of printmaking, I finally felt like it was my medium. This artwork is quite failed, but it was exciting to make. This was not the best of this series, but it is one of them.
