Leftovers Bloom

2016, papers, money, pen, hobby grass, stamps, holes, 19 x 12 inches.

I made an artwork with Arthur’s fourth grade class called Poetry Tree.  Each person in the class wrote poetic words relating to their nationalities in bubble writing.  I cut each word out of the stamps and money associated with each nationality.  The insides of the bubble letters were leftover.  I glued the “negative” shapes close to each other and let these grow like branches.   I needed some flowers to bloom, so I used a Spirograph to make blossoms. I am interested in recycling.  I am interested that out of loss and  nothing comes something.  I am interested in how things grow.  I am interested in the eternally spiraling movement of everything in the cosmos.
