God’s Eye

2018, papers, dots and holes and string, 32 x 24 inches.

My dear friend Melinda gave me a very strange but very beautiful strip of woven fabric that is made of lots of hand-made colourful and unique circles within circles sewed together. I have hung it in my studio and love it every day. In fact, it is the kind of thing that I am itching to cut up, but I am not sure that I could improve upon this very beautiful piece of quirkiness. This artwork is my way of paying homage to that weaving.  The middle bit is a recycled artwork that I started years ago and was a failure, but it is a perfect pupil for my God’s Eye. If anyone remembers making “God’s Eye’s” in school with popsicle sticks and yarn, the name, and the way that it looks, reminds me of that.  I would imagine that if God has an eye it is a rainbow like this, reflecting back the wonder of the firmament.
