Equinox Harvest Under the Alchemy Moon, 2023, papers, gabric, handmade felt, iron, gold, graphite, string, ink, 33 1/2 x 29 1/2 inches.

Two of my favorite children’s books are Where the Wild Things Are and In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak. I also love Rousseau the artist.  This artwork reminded me of their work in the colours, the mysteriousness, and the slightly off-ishness of it all.

Here is the time of the autumn equinox when the most bulbous sun is setting and the harvest full moon is rising. To me, these two are so in synch that they seem to blend into one dull ,orange-pink, bulbous circle.  They vibrate and glow in synch with each other.   The sky is forest green with white flecks to contrast perfectly with the sun/moon.  This is a time of sewing what we have reaped, of putting to sleep the power of summer.  Everything Is at its peak, but it is also time to hibernate or die.   The flowers here are already ghosts and their golden spirits are living below in the roots, ready to rise again at the spring equinox.
