2025, Elizabeth Gardener Amory’s tea towel, thread and asinine phrases that float around our world, 35 x 18 1/2 inches.
I have had too many meetings and interactions with people who thought they were sounding intelligent, but instead just controlled the conversation by yammering on like the words here. It was as though they just wanted to hear the sound of their own voices. The penultimate meeting that inspired this artwork was so full of garble that I couldn’t bear it ay more. My small rebellion has been to accumulate these odious phrases and sew them onto my great-great grandmother’s once pristine tea towel. There, of course, are many more sayings, but they cannot fit. Every once in a while, one of these hideous phrases pops out of my own mouth, or my hand when I write, and I am horrified and try to take it back. END GARBLING ASININELY. Elizabeth Gardner Amory wouldn’t have had a clue in hell what you are pretending to say.
