Barnacle Conference

2015, clay and colour and glaze, 1o 1/2 inches around by 1 1/2 inches tall.

My children take an inspiring pottery class with Jacqui Roche.  I was moved to make this crazy piece and so I did.  I made it by pressing my fingers through balls of clay and shaping it to my knuckles.  Then I sealed them all together like a barnacle conference.  On the outside, they are painted a dull brown and on the inside they are a shiny, wet pink.  It is a little sexual, but that is the way that it goes. The next step in my vision would be to enlarge this to a huge degree. I imagine it in an enormous open, meadowy area, perfectly sized, so that people could walk through the barnacle tunnels into a quiet, natural sanctuary in the middle.
